I’ve always been a huge fan of Rails to Trails and the projects they promote. I’ve joined the organization in the past and will continue to contribute in the future. It’s a great way to turn unused real estate into an asset that can be enjoyed by many outdoor enthusiasts. We’re doing this same thing here in Greenville, SC with the development of the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail is going to connect Greenville with Travelers Rest, SC; our neighbor 12 miles to the north. There is already a several mile section of trail paved over in the TR area and it is being used by thousands of people very regularly. I make it a point to use the trail when it’s convenient, and I love it. I’m always impressed with the number of people that I see having fun along the completed section.
I’m particularly excited about some news I just heard regarding the addition of a “Flow Park” being added to Gateway Park adjacent to the trail. A Flow Park consists of a series of obstacles, berms and jumps that can test and develop your bike handling skills, while putting a permanent smile on your face. You’ve probably seen these tracks on TV or read about them in the magazines, but many have never turned a pedal in one. If all goes well with fundraising, Greenville area cyclists of all ages and abilities will be able to enjoy one of these unique features this summer.
The Greenville County Recreation District is partnering with Upstate SORBA (Southern Off-Road Biking Association), and Ground Industries (local mountain / ground board manufacturer) to create the first public "Flow Park" in the Upstate. They need some help raising the funds for the 7000 square foot park, so please visit the Greater Greenville Parks Foundation website and make a donation towards the cause. This thing is going to be a blast!
